as hipster kids talk about
Michael Kors bags
and smoke Marlboro Reds
over coffee shop Italian Sodas.
They all wear Vans
or Converse
and push their fake Ray Bans
into the collars of their shirts.
I understand the words they are saying
but so quickly lose interest
in the absence of their substance
that eavesdropping isn’t even appealing.
I feel sorry for them
as I glance at the empty chair
next to me.
